Candice Swanepoel (born October 20, 1988) is a South African model born in Mooi River, KwaZulu-Natal, best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. She is the first South African to be chosen as a contract angel by Victoria’s Secret.

She was raised by her mother Eileen Swanepoel in South Africa with no illusions of one day becoming a super model, but by the age of 15, during a shopping trip at a Durban flea market her life changed when she was spotted by a local modeling scout.

One negative to the whole experience, is that because of her decision to start modeling at a young age, as well as the travel and time demands involved with the high glamor job, she has been forced to drop out of school, but it’s worth it, because not many young girls have experienced the type of success that has followed Candice Swanepoel. After signing with Ice Model Management at the age of 15, her career quickly skyrocketed. According to her modeling agency she is noted by advertisers for her fresh faced, doe-y-eyed innocent features, and an elegance which defies her age. These unique qualities landed her major shows in New York City, London and Milan, as well as major ad campaigns representing Victoria’s Secret, Tommy Hilfiger, and Nike. In 2006 and 2007, she was a featured Angel model for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. By age 16, Swanepoel was earning 5,000 Euros or R40,000 for a day’s work.

Swanepoel’s resume includes covers for Vogue (Greece), ELLE (Germany), and Ocean Drive (U.S.) and advertisements for Nike, Diesel, Guess?, and Versus Eyewear. Swanepoel has walked the runway for Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce and Gabbana, Sass and Bide, Betsey Johnson, Diane von Fürstenberg and numerous other designers, as well as for Victoria’s Secret in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

In addition to appearing in the lingerie brand’s commercials, she was a featured model in the 2010 “SWIM” catalog.

In 2010, Swanepoel became one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels, joining the likes of Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, and Miranda Kerr.
